The Plant breeding.

Here, at the Scientific Research Institute of Crop Husbandry, we have a Plant breeding department and which performs researches on the basis of 4 major programs that includes 5 grainy and grainy-legume varieties (wheat, barley, corn, peas, and lentils) of plants in it.

Scientific-research program:

·         Wheat program;

·         Barley program;

·         Corn program;

·         Food legumes program;

 

1.      The Wheat program

This program that covers various soil and climatic conditions, generally executes on five regions (Goygol, Absheron,Baku, the Mount-Shirvan (Gobustan), Jalalabad), under conditions of irrigation. Researches are being carried out on 2 themes and 5 research works. We closely collaborate with: The Plant Genetic Resources Institute of the NASA (the National Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan Republic); and also internally with the departments and laboratoriesof our institute, like a: plant physiology and biotechnology; controlon diseases and pests; grain quality. The major aim of research is to create and produce highly productive, qualitative and also abiotic and biotic stress resistible varieties of wheat.

Stages of the research work:

·         Researches on the local and introduced genotypes of wheat by taking into account their agronomic features;

·         Determination of the effective donors and genes against diseases and pests;

·         Identification of the genetic markers that controls quality of wheat;

·         Tests on the newbie hybrid material by taking into account the various climatic conditions;

·         Creation of the adaptive varieties of sorts for each region, on the basis of chosen genotypes;

·         Organization and dispersion of the primary seeding of the regionalized sorts;

The genetic identification works of the newbie varieties of wheat also carries out as a part of this program.

 

2.      The Barley program

This program by itself covers five regions and also various climatic andsoil conditions of our Republic.The major aim of research is to create and produce stress, lodging and pest tolerant,highly productive, qualitative, varieties of wheat on the regions of our Republic, which are exposed to salinization.

Stages of the research work:

·         The primary researches on the barley embryo plasmas which are introduced from the local and international breeding centers;

·         Application, dispersion and control on barley which is chosen for its special traits, like a: productivity and resistance to any stress factors;

·         Application, dispersion and control on barley which has a following qualities:stress, lodging and pest tolerance, productivity and qualitative factors;

·         Organization of the primary seeding and application, creationand also dispersion of the stress, lodging and pest tolerant, highly productive, qualitative, varieties of barley on the regions of our Republic, which are exposed to salinization;

 

3.      The Food legume program

Stages of the research work:

·         The research works on pea and lentil;

·         Creation of the stress tolerant forms of legumes on the Mount-Shirvanand the southern regions of the Republic;

·         Creation of the newbie varieties of pea and lentils which has a quality of being productive an d qualitative;

·         Determination of the physiological parameters of pea and lentils under conditions of field;

·         Organization of the primary seeding of the newbie varieties and submit to the SNSMUDK;

 

4.      The Corn program

There is a merely one theme on corn that executes currently. The research works on this program will be carried out on the following destinations of the Scientific Research Institute of Crop Husbandry: 1. Zagatala RFS (provided with humid) and 2.  Sheki SD (partially humid). As a result of close cooperation among the local and international research centers, the gathered genotype examples are being used on those destinations.

The major aim of research is to create a disease and pest tolerant, middle height, rapid growing, qualitative and also productive varieties and hybrids of corn.

Stages of the research work:

·         The primary assessment of the breeding and collection materials;

·         Assessment of lines for their bio morphological and qualitative features;

·         Dialed hybridization;

·         Selection of the perspective lines at the control centers;

·         Selection of 20-25 hybrids that differs for their high rates and keeping on the research works;

·         Selection of stable forms and their assessment;

·         Submit to the SNSMUDK;
