Employee of the Institute participated in an international training course on Wheat Plant Selection and Diseases in Turkey

On 26 March - 21 April, 2018, a training course for young scientists from Central Asia on the Selection and Disease of Wheat Plant by FAO and CIMMYT was held in Turkey. The training course was attended by Gulnar Zakir Ismayilova, junior scientific worker of the Disease and Pest Control Laboratory of the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry, representatives from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The Presentations on "Presentation of IWWIP", "Presentation of FAO" and "General method of autumn wheat selection" was demonstrated under the leadership of Alexey Morgunov and Hafiz Muminjanov in Ankara, Turkey. On March 29-30, they got acquainted a durum and bread wheat, triticale cultivation, quality assessment, drought assessment and IWWIP field study in "Bahri Dağdaş International Institute for Agricultural Research" in the city of Konya. Participants visited the Corn Research Institute of Sakarya and listened to the presentation, conducted discussions and acquainted themselves with the work done in the field. The presentations were made on durum and bread wheat cultivation in Transitional Zone Agricultural Research Institute, the history of the institute, the directions of its activities; there was acquaintance also on work done in the Physiology and Grain Quality Laboratory, as well as the rules for the implementation of inoculation to study Fusarium disease. During the training in period Aegean Agricultural Research Institute, participants got a lecture from Beyhan Akın and Rza Unsal about the work done by the Institute, the Selection Program, the Objective Purpose, Selection Methods of Generation Selection (Modified Balk Method). Genotypes were selected that are resistant to powdery mildew disease on the productive or high quality wheat plant and their hybridization was carried out in the clean lines (F5-F6 generations) obtained during the research conducted by the Institute. They get experience from Beyhan Akin, Rza Unsal, Mahaahmad about implementation of rust disease, rust disease assessment in ruminants. Participants performed a phytopathological assessment of yellow and brown rust in the fields of CIMMIT and ICARDA with the participation of experts.
