Director of Research Institute of Crop Husbandry took part at annual meeting on Improvement of Winter Wheat in Turkey
On 21-24th January, Javanshir Talai, director of Institute took part at yearly meeting that was established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, CIMMIT and İCARDA on Improvement of Winter Wheat. The meeting was held in the South Anatolia Agricultural Research Institute in Shanliurfa, Turkey. The main purpose of the program is to improve and develop the genetic material of the winter and optional wheat for the Central and Western Asia region. Also, this program is closely involved with the selection of wheat genetic material in the world independently. Research Institute of Crop Husbandry has been conducting joint research for wheat selection within the framework of the program for more than 20 years. Opening the event, head of the Department of Agriculture and Forest of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, Hasan Gezginc, emphasized the importance of the event, selection of autumn and facultative wheat in accordance with the Central and West Asia touched upon the use of ecological conditions, the role of irrigation and drought in the creation of genetic material for the green zones. According to the program, Bahri Dagdas Director of International Agricultural Research Institute, Founder of Turkey's FIFA program, Fatih Özdemir, CIPC Coordinator, Alexey Morqunov, ISPAR Coordinator for ICARDA, Mesut Keser said in his speeches on the importance of the program, the results, the role of international breeders in the creation of varieties, strengthening of international cooperation, research directions for 2019 and forthcoming tasks. Director of Research Institute of Crop Husbandry Javanshir Talai presented on "Results of Selection Studies in Azerbaijan in the Year of 2017-2018 within the framework of the program". Achievements in wheat selection in Azerbaijan were highly appreciated by the event participants. At the end of the event, the work plan of the researches and events to be held in 2019 within the framework of the program was discussed. During the event, the agreement was reached to conclude agreements on cooperation with the Institute of Agriculture ET and the Eastern Mediterranean Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute in Adana, the Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute in Konya and the Agricultural Research Institute in Adjara to visit Azerbaijan in this regard.
